Clinical Significance

When glucose combines with protein, it forms a compound called Fructosamine. This test measures the total amount of fructosamine of glycated protein in the blood. The test aids in screening Diabetes Mellitus and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. It is useful in monitoring the control of glucose levels over the past two to three weeks. Increased levels of fructosamine indicate poor glucose control.
